Staying Positive in Your Job Search
Fact is; staying positive during this time is very challenging.
Here are some tips that we have shared with our other clients:
- Setting proper and realistic expectations can be helpful in staying confident
- Job searching is not an overnight thing; it takes time
- Companies move at their own pace
- It’s possible to influence the timeframe, but not change it
- Job searching is hard work
- Many say it’s a full-time job
- Be proactive –don’t just submit your resume and wait, follow-up by targeting employers, networking and talking to others
- Remember not everyone will handle things as professionally as you’d like
- You can’t control how others act – realizing that you will receive some negative responses or no response, unfortunately this is part of the job searching journey
- Look for the positives – in conversations, interviews, feedback, and others who are willing to help you along this journey
- Set your thoughts on the positives, not on the negatives and disappointments that will occur
- Start every day thinking positive
- Work on the things you can control – moving items forward, organizing what is open, and looking for new opportunities and initiatives
- Stay active
- Offer to help others
- Pay it forward
- Exercise
- Get up early and finish your day strong
- Keep current
- Take ownership and be accountable for your actions, defeats and triumphs – don’t blame others
- Don’t just hear but listen. Listen to your feedback, step back and let it sink in. Then adjust where necessary. That means your conversations, responses, questions, resume, profile, your approach.
It is true that employers hire applicants that are qualified, but more than that, they hire people whose personality and attitude are a good match for their company and culture.
To be effective and find the perfect opportunity, always remember that being confident, honest, personable and positive will help you get your next big thing.
